From the artist
Kuchiki: Among the San people, there is a belief that the soul of a dying man can become trapped within a Quiver Tree. Standing before this particular tree, that story took on new meaning. I began to see it not simply as something dying, but as something still holding a life within it. I titled the photograph Kuchiki no Tamashii: The Soul of the Withered Tree.
Kareno: This print was born from a quiet fascination with the marks humans leave on the earth. High on a distant hill, five trees stood clumped together under a heavy, gathering storm. Below them, the field had been deeply furrowed by farming—the linear strokes pulling the eye upward, like a slow procession toward the horizon.
