About Aperio

I often find myself saying, “Art without a viewer is like a book without a reader.”

As a practising artist, like so many, I put work out into the world to be seen, experienced and to connect. That is what started Aperio: the desire to make art visible.

Aperio is a curated online gallery connecting artists and their work with collectors. It is not an open marketplace. Every artist is selected for their individual point of view, and every work is carefully presented and documented. Where applicable, we provide certificates of authenticity and details of exhibition history, publications and awards. We understand the importance of provenance to serious collectors and the confidence that comes from knowing the history of the work you are buying.

But Aperio was also built from an artist’s side of the gallery wall.

We know that making the work is only part of being an artist. There is also the business of getting it seen, finding the right audience, selling it, shipping it and navigating everything that comes with trying to build a sustainable practice. We support the artists we represent with visibility, practical and logistical support and, perhaps most importantly, a human relationship with the gallery representing their work.

Aperio is built around both sides of that relationship: artists who want their work to be seen, and collectors looking for work worth seeing.

Looking for new voices

Aperio is not a closed circle. Our regular open calls are one of the ways we discover artists and work we may not otherwise encounter. Each begins with a theme broad enough to invite different perspectives, mediums and interpretations. We are interested in finding new voices and bringing work together in ways that create unexpected conversations.

Taking Irish exhibitions beyond the gallery walls

Aperio is based in Longford, Ireland, and with that comes a special commitment to working with independent galleries to help extend their physical exhibitions into the online space. An exhibition no longer needs to be limited by geography or by the number of people able to walk through the gallery door. Through Aperio, participating galleries can bring their exhibitions to a wider collector audience, while artists gain greater visibility and another opportunity for their work to be discovered and sold.
