The Ancient Ghost of Etosha

Deep in Namibia's Etosha National Park, I encountered one of the legendary ‘Grey Ghosts of Etosha’: an elephant bull shaped by decades beneath the African sun. Mineral-rich water had left a pale calcite patina across his weathered body, giving him an almost sculptural presence. His deep wrinkles, torn ear and worn tusk carried the marks of a long life. Standing before him, I felt I was not simply witnessing an elephant, but time itself.
