From the artist
For three days I sheltered in a palm-frond hut in the Sinai Desert, reading War and Peace as a ferocious sandstorm raged outside. Finally, I wrapped myself and my camera against the flying sand and ventured out in search of a photograph.
After hours battling the elements, I spotted a Bedouin approaching on a camel. I photographed him several times before he dismounted and walked away. Turning my camera towards him one last time, I caught this image of the young man and his loyal dog, trudging into the unknown.
It was the last frame on my roll of film.
