Australian painter and artists Karen Hammat stands in a doorway wearing a black long-sleeve top, blue jeans, and red sneakers, posed in front of a textured beige stucco wall with a circular window.

From the artist

I am interested in that delicate space between discord and harmony, where opposites can coexist and the unexpected can become beautiful. A deliberate juxtaposition of contrasting colours, tones and forms creates a dynamic tension within the painting — moments that unsettle and challenge, alongside others that soothe and please.
